The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom, holding an estimated collection of over 200 million items including books, manuscripts, journals, newspapers, sound recordings, maps, and other materials. Its purpose-built building next to St Pancras station was opened by Elizabeth II in 1998.
The British Library is a major attraction and research institution that families often visit to see the treasures in the reading rooms and the exhibitions. Not primarily for children, but older kids (8+) might find the grand interior and historic books impressive. Staff are welcoming even to young visitors browsing.
