A Grade II listed house in Chelsea where Scottish essayist and historian Thomas Carlyle lived with his wife Jane from 1834 until his death. Now managed by the National Trust, it operates as a historic house museum open to the public.
The Victorian domestic setting is atmospheric but best for children aged 10+ interested in literary history and the Carlyles specifically. The house is modest by museum standards. Limited wheelchair access (narrow stairs). The period furnishings are lovely but not interactive or designed for young children.
