About

A four-acre physic garden established in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries to grow plants used as medicines. Among the oldest botanical gardens in Britain, it features the oldest European rock garden devoted to alpine and Mediterranean plants, with the largest fruiting olive tree in Britain and unusual outdoor grapefruit growing. Grade I listed and opened to the public in 1983.
